Even the last is late

I have a problem updating this thing.

Wednesday, Nov. 11

Ms. Thompson had me look through the collection for call number stickers that were different from the way they were suppose to be. These included stickers that were hand-written, not in all capital letters, or were badly faded. I went through the collection and turned in the list. After I was done, Ms. Thompson gave me "These are Reference Books and They Do Not Leave The Library" stickers to put on reference books whose stickers had faded and were unreadable.

Friday, Nov. 13

Ms. Thompson gave me the new call number stickers and I put them on the books that they belonged to. After finishing with the stickers, I started dusting the shelves. Unforunately, I ran out of cleaning clothes before I got done.

Monday, Nov. 16

Ms. Thompson had gotten some more clean clothes and I finished dusting the shelves. After I was finished, I swept the floor with the floor sweeper. When I was done with the floor, I started on a new stack of newspapers.

Wednesday, Nov. 18

I finished going through the stack of newspapers looking for articles. After I was done, Ms. Thompson had me go through all the devices in the video room to see if they all worked. I checked VCRs, overhead projectors, and an old video camera. After checking everything, I put all the deficits on a cart and took down first barcode numbers, then took off the barcodes.

Friday, Nov. 20

Friday was my last day, and because it was before the school's week of Thanksgiving break, there wasn't that much to do. All I did was clean out the drawers behind the front desk with Mrs. Smith and throw away things that needed to be thrown away. I looked through three newspapers, but didn't find anything. And that was about it for what I did that day. However, it was also my birthday, and there was a little celebrating. There were some cupcakes (I ate four), a card, and a bucket of gum that was joke pertaining to the time that I scrapped the gum off the bottom of all the tables in the library. The "Guminator" sticker on the bucket was a nice touch, though.

LIS 458

This is my post for my LIS 458 project. LIS 458 is a class about adapting new technologies for use in the library. It has been a fun class and I have learned alot. Also, the teacher has been really great.

These are only a week late

Wednesday, Nov. 4

I de-stickered videos again today. I also cut out a few newspaper articles, too. Ms. Thompson told me that she and Mrs. Smith weren't going to be there on Friday, that it was just going to be Mrs. Hester, and we talked about what I was going to be doing on Friday.

Friday, Nov. 6

It had been decided on Wednesday that on Friday that I was going to go through the fiction and short stories sections of the Senior High Core Collection 2009 addition. The addition had come in a little booklet. It took me the whole time, but I got both sections finished.

Monday, Nov. 9

Today I cut out articles from the the newspaper. There weren't that many, so I was able to go through the entire stack. I also worked on Senior High non-fiction again.

Another batch of late posts

Friday, Oct. 16

I took call number stickers and video information off videos and cases. I also started working on Senior High periodicals section.

Monday, Oct. 19

I took call number stickers and video information off again. I also worked on Senior High preiodicals.

Wednesday, Oct. 21

I took stickers and video information off again. The foil backed stickers are a pain to take off. I also worked on Senior High periodicals again. There was something fun that took away some of the boredom, though. The library had gotten some new books and they needed to be stamped. The library has a stamp that has the school's name and city on it and the the books are stamped on the first page, page 25, and the inside of the back cover. It only took 2o minutes to do, it was a fun break from the routine but it was short.

Friday, Oct. 23

I took stickers and video information off again. I finished the Senior High periodical list. I swept the floor with the floor sweeper.

Monday, Oct. 26

There was a big batch of videos to do, and it took me all the time to finish it. It wasn't really that hard to do, you get in a groove and time flies by. The only problem is that the foil stickers have been on the videos and cases for several years and don't come off in one piece.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

I took stickers and video information off again. But I also got to put some stickers on. The library had gotten some new DVDs, and they needed barcodes and call number stickers put on them. There were about 3o DVDs to put stickers on.

Friday, Oct 30

The computers had been acting funny before I had got to the library and they went down a few minutes after I came in, so things became kind of quiet without classes coming in to use the computers. I had a small batch of videos to de-sticker and got done with them kind of quickly. Since it wasn't really busy, me and librarians cleaned everything (computers, tables) and straightened up the shelves.

Monday, Nov. 2

I had another small batch of videos to de-sticker and got them done in about 20 minutes. When I got done, Mrs. Smith asked me to put the new DVDs on the shelves in video room. While doing that, I noticed that because the videos were shelved on their sides and there weren't that many DVDs in the collection, the DVDs couldn't be shelved standing up with their spines to the searcher. After talking to Mrs. Smith, we decided to reposition the shelf broads. It wasn't really that hard, the shelves weren't heavy and the pegs that the broads rested on could easily be moved up and down. It was pretty dusty, though.

Late Again

I keep forgetting to update after each time at the Library

Wednesday, Sept. 30

I worked on Senior High non-fiction list again.

I started organizing Tiger Time notebooks in order for them to be returned to the students. Tiger Time was a program used last school year to get students to read more books. The students would be reading something and write an entry about it in their notebooks. The program didn't really work that well and at the end of the school year last year, the notebooks were taken up and stored in boxes. However, those boxes were taking up space and the faculty decided to return the notebooks. So I was given the boxes and the rolls of the present classes and started organizing.

Friday, Oct. 2

Worked on Tiger Time again.

Monday, Oct. 5

Worked on Tiger Time again.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

Worked on Tiger Time again.

Friday, Oct. 9

Finished Tiger Time notebooks.

Monday, Oct. 12

I cut out newspaper articles for library records.

Wednesday, Oct. 14

I removed stickers and tags from videos and video cases that the library had decided to remove from the collection after the librarians had gone through the pulled expiration date videos. Some of the stickers were hard to remove.

Another block of late updates

Sorry, I'm a little late with updates again.

Wednesday, Sept. 16

Worked on Senior High non-fiction list again. Also, checked the new updated library policy.

Friday, Sept. 18

Worked on Senior High non-fiction list again.

Monday, Sept. 21

Worked on Senior High non-fiction list again. Cleaned the tables and roller-swept the carpet.

Wednesday, Sept. 23

Worked on Senior High non-fiction list again. Also, checked the library's video collection and pulled videos with expiration dates from 2009 thru 1998.

Friday, Sept. 25

Worked on Senior High non-fiction list again. Then looked through part of the newspaper stack for articles that dealt with Hattiesburg High or the Hattiesburg School district. We found gum on the floor next to one of the tables, and after checking under the tables, saw all the gum that had been stuck under the tables. So I started scrapping the gum off with a screwdriver.

Monday, Sept. 28

Finished scrapping all the gum off the bottom of the tables. Also, roller-swept the carpet again.

Friday, September 11 & Monday, September 14

Friday, September 11

I worked on the Titlewave list again. Also, I cleaned out the library's catalogs. The catalogs were divided into four groups: books, videos and DVDs, supplies and equipment, and library catalogs. I had to remove any catalogs from Spring 09 or older.

Monday, September 14

I finished the fiction Titlewave list. Then I checked out a few books, about 3. I start on the Nonfiction section of the Senior High Core.
